The Power of Wind
The power of the wind has been harnessed for thousands of years. As technology has advanced, the wind has been used for grinding grain, pumping water and providing electricity to farms beyond the reach of power lines. Today, wind farms use the energy contained in prevailing winds to generate electricity for homes and businesses.
Our businesses’ wind projects not only foster economic development but they also demonstrate Apex Energy’s commitment to renewable energy and environmental respect. MidAmerican Energy Company is ranked first in the nation in ownership of wind-powered electric generation among rate-regulated utilities. And PacifiCorp is the second-largest rate-regulated owner of wind-powered generation in the nation. NV Energy has completed Nevada’s first utility-scale wind energy project. And Apex Renewables continues to focus its operations on unregulated wind-powered generation projects.
A Leader in Renewables
With more than 7,300 megawatts of generating capacity in operation at year-end 2021, wind energy plays an integral role in MidAmerican Energy Company’s 100% renewable energy vision for Iower customers. It’s another important step in reaching the ultimate goal of net zero emissions.
Capacity Expansion
PacifiCorp is adding to its 2,160 megawatts of wind energy capacity with more projects planned by 2024. The company’s long-term plan to serve customers results in a 74% reduction of greenhouse gas emissions from 2005 levels by 2030.
